Can You Get Your Acrylic Nails Wet

Removing Acrylic or Dip Nails at Home

Materials You'll Need:

  • Acetone (pure or nail polish remover with acetone)
  • Cotton balls or pads
  • Aluminum foil
  • Medium grit nail file
  • Cuticle oil

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Soak Your Nails

Begin by soaking your nails in a bowl filled with pure acetone or nail polish remover containing acetone. The soaking time may vary depending on the thickness of your acrylic or dip nails, but it should be around 15-30 minutes.

2. Wrap Your Nails

Once your nails have soaked, wrap each nail in a cotton ball or pad saturated with acetone. Secure the cotton using aluminum foil, ensuring that the nails are completely covered. This will help the acetone penetrate the acrylic or dip more effectively.

3. Wait and Check

Leave the aluminum foil wraps on for another 15-30 minutes, or longer if necessary. After this time, check to see if the acrylic or dip has softened. Gently use a medium grit nail file to roll the softened material off the nail. If it doesn't roll anymore, re-apply cuticle oil and re-soak your nails for a longer period.

4. Repeat Until Removed

Repeat the soaking and wrapping steps until all of the acrylic or dip has been removed from your nails. This process may take several rounds, especially if you have thick nails or have been wearing acrylics or dip for an extended period.

5. Moisturize and Care

Once all of the acrylic or dip has been removed, apply cuticle oil to nourish and moisturize your nails. Regular maintenance with cuticle oil will help keep your nails healthy and strong after removing artificial materials.
