Bob Newhart, the beloved comedian and actor whose stammering deadpan unflappability carried him to stardom in stand-up comedy, television, and film, passed away on Thursday morning of natural causes at the age of 95.

Newhart's career spanned over six decades, during which he became a household name with his two classic sitcoms, "The Bob Newhart Show" and "Newhart."

Born George Robert Newhart on September 5, 1929, in Chicago, Newhart began his career as an accountant before transitioning to comedy in 1960. His unique brand of humor, characterized by his signature stammer and deadpan delivery, quickly caught on, and he became a regular on television variety shows.

In 1961, Newhart released his debut comedy album, "The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart," which won a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album. The album's success led to a string of successful comedy specials and live performances.

Newhart's first sitcom, "The Bob Newhart Show," premiered in 1972 and ran for six seasons. The show featured Newhart as a Chicago psychologist who often found himself in comedic predicaments with his patients and friends.

After the success of "The Bob Newhart Show," Newhart starred in "Newhart," which premiered in 1982. In this sitcom, Newhart played a Vermont innkeeper who, after a dream, finds himself back in Chicago living the life he had in "The Bob Newhart Show." The show ran for eight seasons and was a critical and commercial success.

Throughout his career, Newhart received numerous awards and accolades, including two Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and a Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. He also received the Kennedy Center Honor in 2012.

Newhart's legacy as a comedic icon will continue to inspire and entertain generations to come.
